Local Artist Jo Ann White Releases Instrumental CD

Guitarist Jo Ann White, born in Farmville, and a native of Charlotte County, has recently released an acoustic CD of easy listening/meditative music. The CD, titled Anchor of the Tides, has seven original tunes written by Jo Ann, and five covers songs.

Jo Ann received her first guitar when she was about ten years old. After learning a few chords, she and her sisters began to sing in church, talent shows and at family gatherings.

Music has always been an important part of her life; however, she wasnt really passionate about it until she discovered an amazing singer named Eva Cassidy. The first time I heard her voice, I was blown away, said White. I also loved her guitar style. Like so many others, I was completely captivated and awed by her talent, but it was much more than her incredible voice or guitar playing. Every single song she sang seemed to be coming from deep inside a sacred place inside her heart and soul.

Evas story and music gave me the courage to dig deep down inside myself to explore my creative spirit, and the courage to overcome my fear so that I could enjoy the wonderful gift that God had given me, she continued.

I love the soothing sound that guitar bring to myself and countless others, she said. A very special person heard my music and encouraged me to release it for others to enjoy. It truly is therapy for me, and Im hoping it will bring some comfort to others who need a soothing presence in their lives.

Since I play by ear rather than read music, my composing consists of hearing a tune in my head, then playing it and recording it, she said. My original songs are a reflection of the peacefulness I am experiencing while playing guitar. When Im playing music I have this all is well with the world feeling. I hope my music brings much peace to every soul who hears it.

Seven of the songs on the CD are her original compositions. The track Remembrance was written in tribute to Eva.

Since discovering Cassidys music, Jo Ann has met the Cassidy family, and she is especially proud to have Dan Cassidy, Evas brother, and Hugh Cassidy, Evas father, accompany her on two of the tracks, Dreamin of Latin Nights and Center of My Soul.

It was a dream come true to have these two gifted musicians work with me on this project, Jo Ann said.

In addition to her solo work, she is also a member of a Contemporary Christian Group called ISH (In Serving Him). The group consists of keyboard player Lee Snead; tenor, Kirsten McCormick; lead vocalist, Tammy Moore; and alto and guitarist, Jo Ann White.

Jo Ann now resides in Halifax County where she continues to work on her music, and is also going to start teaching guitar lessons mid October.

The CD is available for sale on Jo Anns website at www.joannwhite.com or at www.cdbaby.com. You can also hear and purchase the CD online at www.Bostonpete.com.
