Boating in Southside &
The Clarksville Hydroplane Challenge

   This issue in addition to our regular articles and columns, we are running a special feature on boating in Southside Virginia. In this Special Edition we are hoping to promote a great event; The Clarksville Hydroplane Challenge.

   The Hydroplane Challenge brings 1000s of participants and spectators from all over the country into the area for a weekend of high speed thrills on the lake.

   2009 marks the sixth year of the event, and it promises to be an exciting weekend. Many people helped us put this issue together, without their help, support and contacts, we could never have done it. At the risk of excluding anyone, we do need to thank the following people for their extra efforts.

   First and foremost, Carol Brown of Southside Marine & Auto who not only put up with our endless questions, but who provided much of the information, press releases, many of the photos and even wrote the J-Boat article. Carol also obtained permission from Ziffle Imaging to use their most impressive photos from last year's event, and took the time to get them to us.

   Bill Baker from United Country Virginia Realty spent time giving us background information and helped us with contacts. One of these contacts led us to Joe Noah of Lakeside Flight - Aerial Photography. Joe provided us with aerial photographs of the lake, bridges and racecourse as well as some excellent photos of the race from bridge level.

   Some of the cover shots are from Ziffle imaging and Lakeside Flight.

   Mary Yeaman of Hughes Marine Service in Danville sent in a great article on winterizing tips for your boat.

   Of course, we couldn't do any of this without the support of all our advertisers.
